evaluate

if i were to redo my magazine again i would spend more time on the front cover making the picture look less pixalted. i would also use more colour and create more plugg and puffs. i think my sub titles are good but could be improved. i would also make my front more interesting e.g. better surrounding

The target audience for this heat magazine is young adults e.g. 20 year olds. It could also be fans of TOWIE and Cheryl Cole. The main image is of Gemma and Arg from TOWIE, which young adults watch. There's also a picture of Cheryl Cole

This magazine uses codes and conventions used by most magazines such as a plugs and puffs. It has a masthead and middle third, left third and a right third. It has a subheading of the word exclusive this is pulling the potential reader in to read and see what exclusive what exclusive story they’ve got their hands on.

Magazine and Audiences

Magazines are very popular media text.
Magazines have very specific audiences in mind and are clearly very different.
Despite sharing the same codes and conventions its obvious that a men's mag has a different target audience than a woman's.

Magazine front covers always have strong generic elements:

price, barcode and issue number/date

a photograph directly related to the feature article

an iconic masthead

various plugs and puffs on the front cover to entice the audience to purchase the magazine.

a thematic link between the colours used and the month of publication.

Magazine front covers are carefully designed to attract the target audience and easily identified on newsagents shelves.

Magazines can be categorised into specific genres:
Lifestyle
Fashion
Music
Celebrity
Film

Magazines have a very specific audience in mind e.g age gender sexuality

Many ideologies (powerful ideas) will be present about the target audience on the front cover.

Women's magazines:
women's magazines contain many ideologies about femininity

Men's magazines:

men's magazines contain many ideologies about masculinity

Examples of good house keeping magazines:

30-50 old women
house wives
middle to upper class

Marie Claire

audience female 20 to 30

class working class and middle class

body image slim toned and powerful positive ideas.
